New Delhi, March 10: The women’s teams of Australia and West Indies are set to kick off their white ball tournament on March 19. This series will feature three T20 matches and an equal number of One Day Internationals (ODIs). Australia has announced a 15-member squad for the white ball tour, with Sophie Molinuex appointed as captain for both formats. Wicketkeeper Tahliya Wilson has received her first call-up to the national team.
Sophie Molinuex recently captained the Australian team in a T20 series against India but missed the last two ODIs due to back issues. Selectors have reported significant improvement in her health, confirming her readiness to lead the team. However, she may opt to sit out some matches if necessary.
The Australian squad includes Lucy Hamilton and Nicola Carey, both of whom participated in the recent series against India. Grace Harris, who played in the T20 series against India, has been excluded from this squad. Anabelle Sutherland will also miss the tour due to a workload management plan.
National selector Sean Fliegler remarked, “Sophie’s performance in the recent T20 series against India was outstanding. She has begun to shape her leadership style. This tour will be another crucial step for her to clarify how she wants to lead the team. Sophie’s health is improving rapidly, and we expect her to be available for selection. We will prioritize the T20 matches while continuously assessing her fitness during the ODI series.”
Regarding the absence of Sutherland and Harris, Fliegler stated, “Given the significant workload over the past 12 months, Anabelle will not participate in this series under an active management plan. We believe this extended rest will help her return to top form before the World Cup. Grace was not selected, but we are well aware of her capabilities, and she remains fully integrated into our plans leading up to the World Cup.”
The T20 matches between West Indies and Australia will take place on March 19, March 21, and March 23 in Kingston. The ODIs are scheduled for March 26, March 29, and April 2 in Basseterre. These ODIs are part of the ICC Women’s Championship.
Australian Team: Darcy Brown, Nicola Carey, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahliya McGrath, Sophie Molinuex, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham, Tahliya Wilson.
