Melbourne, September 5 (Kiran News) — Australia on Thursday announced its squad for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, with left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux making a much-anticipated return after recovering from a knee surgery earlier this year.

Molineux, who had been sidelined due to a long-term injury, underwent surgery in January. While she is unlikely to feature in the upcoming ODI series against India, team management is hopeful she will regain full fitness before the World Cup, scheduled to begin on September 30.

The squad has also been bolstered by the return of pacer Darcie Brown (quad injury) and leg-spinner Georgia Wareham (groin injury). Wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy, who recently made her comeback for Australia A, has also been declared fit.

Team physio Kate Beerworth said, “Sophie Molineux is progressing well in her recovery, and we are confident she will be ready for the World Cup. Alyssa Healy and Georgia Wareham have also fully returned to training.”

The squad features several first-time World Cup selections, including Phoebe Litchfield, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham, and Kim Garth. Grace Harris has also earned her maiden ODI World Cup call-up.

With Ashleigh Gardner, Alana King, Wareham, and Molineux, Australia’s spin attack looks stronger than ever. In batting, Georgia Voll’s domestic performances have been rewarded with a place in the 15-member squad.

For the three-match ODI series against India, all-rounder Charli Knott and wicketkeeper-batter Nicole Faltum have also been included, though they will return before the World Cup.

National selector Shawn Flegler said, “We have considered all conditions while selecting this team. Spinners will play a crucial role on pitches in India and Sri Lanka. Sophie Molineux’s recovery is encouraging, and we are confident she will be fit for the World Cup.”

Australia, who won their record sixth Women’s ODI World Cup in New Zealand in 2022, will begin their title defense against New Zealand on October 1 in Indore.
