Rinku Singh Sets New Record in IPL 2026, Surpassing Andre Russell

Kolkata, April 3: The sixth match of IPL 2026 is underway at Eden Gardens, featuring Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Rinku Singh has made history by becoming the player with the most catches for KKR in IPL history.

On Thursday, Rinku achieved this milestone by catching Aniket Verma off Anukul Roy’s bowling during the 10th over of SRH’s innings. This catch marked Rinku’s 41st in the IPL while wearing the KKR jersey, surpassing Andre Russell, who previously held the record with 40 catches. Sunil Narine follows with 36 catches, while Manoj Tiwary ranks fourth with 30 catches. In this match, Rinku also took a spectacular catch of Ishan Kishan.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and invited SRH to bat first. SRH got off to a strong start, with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head putting together 82 runs for the first wicket in just 5.4 overs. Head scored 46 runs off 21 balls at a strike rate of 219, while Abhishek Sharma contributed 48 runs off 21 balls at a strike rate of 228, hitting four fours and four sixes. Thanks to their impressive performance, SRH amassed 84 runs in the powerplay, losing only one wicket, marking the fourth-highest powerplay score in IPL history.

However, captain Ishan Kishan struggled with the bat, scoring just 14 runs off 9 balls before being dismissed. Aniket Verma was out for a mere one run. Nitish Kumar Reddy managed to score 39 runs off 24 balls, hitting four fours and one six. Heinrich Klaasen played a brilliant innings, scoring 52 runs off 35 balls, helping SRH post a total of 226 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs.

In their first match of IPL 2026, SRH faced a 6-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore, despite scoring 201 runs. Their bowlers failed to defend the target, as RCB chased it down comfortably in just 15.4 overs, losing only four wickets.
