New Delhi, April 3: The Mumbai Indians (MI) kicked off IPL 2026 with a victory, and now they have received some exciting news. New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner has joined the team and is available for selection for the upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals on April 4.
According to ‘Cricbuzz’, Santner has arrived in Delhi, where the next match between the two teams will take place at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium. He could be part of Mumbai’s playing eleven against Delhi on Saturday. Mumbai started IPL 2026 with a spectacular win.
Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, Mumbai delivered an impressive performance, defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets in their first match of the tournament. Chasing a target of 221 runs set by KKR, Mumbai achieved it in just 19.1 overs, losing only four wickets. This marks Mumbai’s biggest successful run chase in IPL history. Ryan Rickelton played a remarkable innings, scoring 81 runs off 43 balls, while Rohit Sharma contributed 78 runs from 38 balls. Together, they put on a stunning 148-run partnership for the first wicket, dominating the match.
However, Mumbai’s bowlers had a disappointing outing against KKR. The absence of Mitchell Santner’s experience was evident in the middle overs. Allah Gazanfar was included in the playing eleven as a spinner but proved to be expensive, conceding 51 runs without taking a wicket in four overs. Meanwhile, captain Hardik Pandya bowled Mayank Markande for just one over, which cost 16 runs. Santner is known for his ability to control runs and take crucial wickets, and he can also contribute significantly with the bat.
