Sobhana Mostari Makes History as Bangladeshs First Woman Cricketer to Score a Century Against Australia

Brisbane, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : Sobhana Mostari has made history by becoming the first Bangladeshi woman to score a century in One Day Internationals (ODIs) against Australia. This remarkable achievement occurred on October 11, 2026, in Brisbane. Mostari’s century is not only a milestone for her but also the first of her international career.

In the match, Australia’s captain, Tahlia McGrath, won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangladesh struggled initially, losing three wickets for just eight runs. However, a strong partnership between captain Nigar Sultana and Sobhana Mostari turned the tide, as they added 195 runs for the fourth wicket. This partnership propelled Bangladesh’s score to 203 runs.

Mostari played a stunning innings, scoring 118 runs off 134 balls, including 18 boundaries, before being dismissed. Her performance underscores her potential as a future star in Bangladesh women’s cricket. Sultana also contributed significantly, remaining unbeaten on 74 runs from 114 balls. Bangladesh finished their innings at 220 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Prior to this match, the highest score by a Bangladeshi woman against Australia was Sultana’s unbeaten 63 runs in a T20 match.

The partnership of 195 runs between Mostari and Sultana is now the largest ever for any wicket in the history of Bangladesh women’s ODI cricket. Previously, a partnership of 152 runs between Sultana and Sharmin Akhtar against Thailand in 2025 held that record. This new partnership also surpasses the previous record for the highest partnership against Australia, which was set in 2002 by New Zealand‘s Emily Drumm and Rebecca Rolls.
