According to reports, the 32nd Battalion of the BSF received credible intelligence late on October 11 about a smuggler from Muslimpara village attempting to smuggle gold from Bangladesh into India through the Harandipur area. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, BSF personnel intensified surveillance and deployed an ambush team in the suspected zone.

At around 6 a.m. on Saturday, the BSF team noticed a suspicious man hiding behind a dense bamboo grove. The alert soldiers immediately surrounded and detained him. Upon searching his belongings, they recovered a plastic packet containing 20 gold biscuits.

The accused was taken into custody and brought to the Harandipur BOP for questioning. The seized gold and the arrested individual were later handed over to the concerned enforcement agencies for further legal action.

A spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF confirmed the operation and commended the alertness and coordination of the troops. He said the BSF continues to maintain strict vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border using its robust intelligence network.

The BSF has urged border residents to report any information related to gold smuggling or cross-border crimes via its ‘Seema Sathi’ helpline number 14419 or WhatsApp number 9903472227. The spokesperson assured that informants will be suitably rewarded, and their identities will be kept confidential.
