New Delhi, 9 December. Irregular routines and unhealthy eating habits often lead to several health issues. Many people experience heaviness in the stomach, indigestion, frequent burping, and chest burning late at night. Ayurveda offers simple remedies to relieve these problems.

Ayurvedic experts explain that the digestive fire slows down after evening. Late meals, fried foods, sitting for long hours, stress, and using mobile phones late at night are major causes of stomach discomfort at night. However, Ayurveda suggests that consuming just two or three common household ingredients can effectively reduce these symptoms.

One of the most effective and quick remedies is drinking lukewarm water with ajwain (carom seeds) and salt. Ayurveda practitioners advise drinking one glass of lukewarm water mixed with a pinch of ajwain and black or rock salt about 30 to 40 minutes after dinner. The thymol in ajwain helps release gas and reduces stomach bloating, promoting deeper and more restful sleep.

Another helpful remedy is warm turmeric and ginger water. This natural anti-inflammatory drink is especially beneficial for those experiencing chest burning or acidity at night. About 40 to 50 minutes before sleeping, drink one cup of warm water with half a teaspoon of turmeric powder, half a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice or grated ginger, and one teaspoon of honey for taste. Turmeric reduces inflammation, ginger activates digestive enzymes, and warm water relaxes stomach muscles.

Along with these remedies, lifestyle changes are necessary. Dinner should be light and taken early, preferably by 7 to 8 pm. Avoid yogurt and cold food from the refrigerator late at night. Do not lie down immediately after eating and switch off mobile phones at least one hour before sleep. Walking for 20 to 30 minutes daily and sipping lukewarm water throughout the day is also beneficial.

According to Ayurveda, these problems arise due to aggravated Vata dosha and weak digestive fire. Household spices like ajwain, turmeric, and ginger help calm Vata and balance digestion. These remedies are completely safe but it is advisable to consult an Ayurvedic doctor before use.
