Anurag Thakur Claims No One is Safe in West Bengal Ahead of 2026 Elections

Kolkata, April 5: As the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections approach, the BJP has intensified its criticism of the TMC government. BJP MP and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur asserted on Saturday that no one is safe in Bengal.

Speaking to reporters in North Dinajpur, Thakur stated, “Who is safe in Bengal? We are not talking about any specific individual. Women are not safe here. Youth are not safe. We, the common people, are not safe. Officials and employees are not safe here either.”

He further emphasized that the Election Commission is a neutral body responsible for conducting elections according to the Constitution and laws. If any irregularities occur, it is their duty to remove fake voters and ensure legitimate voters are registered. Thakur questioned why Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee opposes the Election Commission if it operates within legal parameters. He accused Banerjee of undermining the law and intimidating officials.

In a related incident, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar reacted sharply to the suspension of a state government official in Nadia district, who was allegedly campaigning for the TMC while on election duty. Sarkar stated, “If a government official is involved in this matter, the Election Commission must take note. They should be suspended for seven years to deter similar actions in the future.”

Sarkar also claimed that Banerjee’s government is fearful of losing this election, leading them to misuse the administration, police, and TMC for campaigning purposes. He commented on the controversy surrounding the SIR (Special Intensive Review) in Malda, suggesting that the misconduct involving judges was directed by Banerjee. He questioned the inaction of the police, noting that while the Election Commission is present, police officers loyal to the TMC are not following its directives.
