New Delhi, April 5: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Saturday that Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue as the One Day International (ODI) captain until 2027. The board also confirmed that Litton Das will lead the T20 team until the T20 World Cup in 2028. This decision rewards Litton for his significant contributions to the team over the past year.
BCB’s operational president, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, spoke to reporters following a board meeting. He stated, “Since our T20 captain’s term ended with the T20 World Cup 2026, both the current T20 captain and vice-captain will remain in their positions until the next T20 World Cup in 2028. Additionally, our ODI captain’s term is also concluding. Therefore, we believe it is essential for the captain to work without interruptions and follow a long-term vision.”
He added, “Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been leading the team for nearly a year, and with the World Cup approaching, we thought giving him this opportunity would allow him to organize and strengthen the team even better. In my opinion, Miraz is performing well and has shown strong play for the team. Considering all these factors, we decided to grant him a long-term tenure to ensure the captain can play a decisive role in effectively nurturing and managing the team.”
Nazmul Abedeen Fahim made this announcement after the fourth board meeting of the current administration at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The BCB has also taken steps to strengthen its coaching setup by appointing former left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique as a spin-bowling consultant on a one-year contract. The board approved a newly elected selection panel chaired by former captain Habibul Bashar Suman and has begun working on a new HR policy. Discussions were also held regarding a pension scheme for umpires and players.
