Sikkim Celebrates Cultural Diversity and Natural Beauty on State Day

New Delhi, May 18: A cultural event was held at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday to celebrate Sikkim Day. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended her best wishes to the people of the state and the nation on this occasion.

The audience was captivated by enchanting performances of Sikkimese folk dances, including Singhi Cham, Khampa, Tamang Selo, and Mask Dance. These presentations beautifully expressed reverence for nature and deities. A total of 10 artists delivered remarkable performances during the musical and cultural showcase.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that Sikkim is a unique example of natural beauty, environmental conservation, and cultural diversity. She noted that nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, the state has become India’s first fully organic state, setting a new standard for environmental preservation in the country.

Gupta stated that Sikkim has consistently conveyed messages of peace, development, and national unity. She highlighted the state’s inspiring contributions in areas such as education, tourism, environmental protection, organic farming, and national security.

The event at the Delhi Secretariat showcased Sikkim’s folk culture, traditions, and developmental journey. Attendees appreciated the cultural glimpses and the state’s national contributions.

Art, Culture, and Language Minister Kapil Mishra remarked that under Chief Minister Gupta’s leadership and in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “One India, Great India,” the Delhi government is organizing foundation day celebrations and festivals for all states.

He added that these events promote the country’s diverse cultural identity and help raise awareness among the younger generation.

The program at the Secretariat was organized by the Sahitya Kala Parishad under the Department of Art, Culture, and Language. Earlier, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia participated in the 51st State Foundation Day celebrations in Gangtok on Saturday, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation for 21 development projects worth ₹223 crores.

The ceremony was also attended by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
