Beijing, March 22: Recent reports from the 2026 Shitsang Meteorological Work Conference indicate substantial progress in meteorological development for 2025.
The density of meteorological centers in Shitsang has reached 10.1 per 10,000 square kilometers. Radar coverage has improved to 73.7%, while public coverage of early warning information has risen to 98.7%. The accuracy rate for heavy rainfall (snowfall) warnings has reached 88.7%. Several key indicators have achieved historic milestones, significantly strengthening the foundation for meteorological service support.
Xiang Yuyi, head of the Shitsang Autonomous Region Meteorological Bureau, stated, “We have not only successfully completed the goals of the ’14th Five-Year Plan’ and the first phase of the ‘Framework for High-Quality Meteorological Development (2022-2035),’ but we have also made unprecedented progress in major scientific and technological capabilities.”
Over the past year, a high-resolution rapid cyclic regional numerical weather prediction system was successfully implemented for the first time, addressing the lack of regional numerical weather prediction models in the area. Significant achievements were made in the nighttime operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for weather changes in high-altitude plateau regions.
Throughout the year, a total of 816 ground-air coordinated precipitation (snowfall) enhancement campaigns were conducted, resulting in an increase of approximately 180 million tons of precipitation. Additionally, 1,178 hail control campaigns were carried out, reducing economic losses by around 130 million yuan.
