New Delhi, May 20: Skanda Shashthi, dedicated to Lord Skanda (Kartikeya), the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, holds special significance. This year, the Shashthi tithi falls on May 21 (Thursday), coinciding with rare auspicious yogas: Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, Amrit Siddhi Yoga, and Guru Pushya Yoga.
Devotees observe fasts and perform rituals for Lord Skanda on this day, also known as Kand Shashthi. The Panchami tithi will last until 8:26 AM on Thursday, after which the Shashthi tithi begins. Sunrise will occur at 5:27 AM, and sunset at 7:08 PM. The Pushya nakshatra will prevail throughout the day, enhancing the significance of Guru Pushya Yoga. The combination of these three yogas makes Skanda Shashthi even more auspicious. Fasting, worship, and donations made during these auspicious timings yield special blessings.
On Thursday, the Pushya nakshatra will last until 2:49 AM on May 22, after which Ashlesha will take over. Gand Yoga will be in effect until 10:58 AM, followed by Karan Balav until 8:26 AM, and then Kaulav until 7:20 PM.
Key auspicious timings include Brahma Muhurat from 4:05 AM to 4:46 AM, Abhijit Muhurat from 11:51 AM to 12:45 PM, Vijay Muhurat from 2:35 PM to 3:29 PM, and Godhuli Muhurat from 7:07 PM to 7:28 PM. Amrit Kaal will be observed from 8:47 PM to 10:18 PM.
Conversely, Rahukal, an inauspicious time, will occur from 2:00 PM to 3:43 PM. It is advisable to avoid any auspicious activities or rituals during this period. Yamagand will be from 5:27 AM to 7:10 AM, and Gulika Kaal from 8:53 AM to 10:35 AM. Devotees are encouraged to keep these inauspicious timings in mind while worshipping Lord Skanda. Observing a fast, chanting Skanda mantras, and donating to Brahmins and the needy are considered highly beneficial on this day.
