
Patna, March 31: In a disturbing incident in Nalanda, Bihar, three assailants publicly harassed a married woman and attempted to gang-rape her. Local police have arrested two suspects in connection with the case.
The shocking event took place in Noor Sarai, Nalanda district. The assailants recorded the incident, which later went viral on social media.
The case came to light on Tuesday when the video circulated online. According to the officer in charge of Noor Sarai police station, the incident occurred on the evening of March 26, when the woman was returning from a nearby grocery store. A group of young men surrounded her and attempted to harass her.
When the woman protested and cried for help, the suspects allegedly assaulted her, knocked her to the ground, and tried to gang-rape her. They are accused of tearing her clothes, filming the act, and later uploading the video online to humiliate her.
Following a written complaint, local police acted swiftly. A special team was formed under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal to investigate the matter. The police promptly arrested two suspects, Ashok Yadav and Matlu Mahto, also known as Navneet Kumar Narottam.
After their arrest, both suspects were placed in judicial custody. The third suspect, Ravikant Kumar, remains at large, and police teams are actively searching for him.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police stated that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in crimes against women. He emphasized that such acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Nalanda police have filed charges against all three named suspects for harassment, violating the dignity of a woman, attempted rape, threatening the victim, and under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
The victim lives in the village with her in-laws, while her husband works in Maharashtra.
