Rahul Gandhi Challenged by R. Ashok After School Roof Collapse in Karnataka

Bengaluru, September 3: R. Ashok, the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Assembly and a senior BJP leader, criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday following the collapse of a school roof in Bagalkot, Karnataka. He challenged Gandhi to hold a ‘Students’ Voice’ event at the affected school and listen to the students’ concerns.

In a statement shared on social media, Ashok highlighted that children were in class when the roof fell. He questioned the claims made by the Congress government regarding its governance and welfare guarantees.

“This incident is not just a statistic; these are children,” Ashok stated, raising concerns about how a government that speaks of ‘justice’ could fail to ensure safe classrooms for students.

He remarked, “A party that preaches justice cannot guarantee a safe classroom. A government that promises guarantees cannot even ensure a roof over a child’s head.”

Ashok urged Gandhi to visit Karnataka, meet the affected students, and listen to their worries rather than focusing on political speeches and rallies.

“Forget the podium. Forget the slogans. Forget the prepared speeches. Come to Karnataka. Stand in this school. Look at the children. Hear their voices,” he said.

He also took a jab at the Congress MP, stating, “You have been given a wake-up call. Karnataka has responded – the roof has collapsed.”

The BJP leader accused the Congress government of deteriorating the condition of government schools in Karnataka. He cited the roof collapse incident in Mugololi Tanda of Bagalkot Taluk as an example.

Ashok claimed that this incident is evidence of the government’s alleged neglect towards children’s education and safety. He questioned Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar about the Congress government’s guarantees.

He further stated that the condition of government schools has worsened under the Congress regime, leading to the roof collapse incident in Mugololi Tanda.

Ashok alleged that children across the state are facing numerous issues, including a lack of shoes and socks, insufficient textbooks, inadequate bus services to schools, and poor infrastructure.
