Mumbai, July 11: A disturbing case of alleged misconduct has emerged in Mumbai, where a woman was reportedly harassed by a doctor during an eye examination. This incident raises serious concerns about the safety of women in the medical field locally.
The incident occurred at a multi-specialty polyclinic and diagnostic center in the Kurla West area. The victim had gone for a routine eye check-up. Initially, Dr. Partho Pranay Bakshi behaved normally, but he began making inappropriate comments when they were alone. The doctor allegedly made lewd remarks and started to behave inappropriately under the pretense of the examination.
According to the woman, the doctor suddenly began to touch her inappropriately. She expressed feeling humiliated and angry by his disgraceful actions. Immediately after the incident, she left the clinic and informed her family about what had transpired. With their support, she filed a complaint at the Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station.
The police took her complaint seriously and acted swiftly, arresting Dr. Partho Pranay. A case has been registered against him under Section 74 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to crimes against the dignity and respect of women.
During the police investigation, it was revealed that other staff members were present at the clinic at the time of the incident, but the doctor had called the woman into a separate room.
In her statement to the police, the victim said, “I went for an eye examination. I never expected that a person in such a respected position would behave this way. I was very scared and felt ashamed.”
The police have begun interrogating the accused doctor and are also looking into whether there have been any previous complaints against him.
Meanwhile, this incident has sparked questions about medical practices in the area. Social activists fighting for women’s rights are preparing to take this case to court, arguing that such doctors should have their licenses revoked.
