Union Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan arrived in Chhattisgarh on a one-day visit on Saturday. During his trip, he will participate in various programmes held in Girhola, Khapri, and Kumhari villages of Durg district. The primary aim of his visit is to observe agricultural activities at the grassroots level, understand farmers’ issues, and engage in direct dialogue with them.
Shivraj Singh Chauhan emphasised that understanding the real challenges of farming is difficult without face-to-face communication with farmers.
In a conversation with the media, the Union Minister said he has come specifically to interact with farmers. In Durg district, he will visit progressive farmers’ fields to observe their farming methods. He mentioned that the Progressive Farmers Association had been urging him to visit for a long time. By witnessing and discussing these innovative farming practices, similar initiatives could be implemented in other states as well. Additionally, he will take part in a farmers’ fair, which he described as a strong bridge for dialogue between the government and farmers.
Shivraj Singh Chauhan also highlighted the importance of engaging with youth. He stated that young leaders who recently visited Delhi under the Young Leader Dialogue have been invited for discussions, as the youth bring fresh and creative ideas. Following these interactions, he will hold a meeting at the state secretariat with the Chief Minister, Agriculture Minister, and Rural Development Minister to review plans related to agriculture and rural development.
The Union Minister praised the progress made in rural development in Chhattisgarh, noting that 18 lakh houses have been approved in the last two years and their construction is progressing rapidly. From rural roads to overall village development, he said commendable work has been done in the state. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is moving towards a strong, self-reliant, and developed India, dedicating the entire day to the people and agriculture of Chhattisgarh.
During the visit, the Minister described the ‘Viksit India Jee Ram Ji Yojana’ as a significant benefit for the poor, labourers, and farmers. He said the scheme has increased employment days from 100 to 125, providing more work and income opportunities in rural areas.
Targeting the Congress party, Shivraj Singh Chauhan accused previous governments of merely shifting soil under MNREGA without real development. He said that under the ‘Viksit India Jee Ram Ji Yojana,’ village panchayats will decide the work required to make their villages fully developed, poverty-free, employment-rich, and self-reliant. He added that Congress’s role has been limited to opposition and internal conflicts, causing frustration among its own workers.
