Sharjeel Imams Parole Ends; Heads to Tihar Jail from Bihar

New Delhi, March 30: Sharjeel Imam, accused in the conspiracy behind the 2020 Delhi riots, is set to surrender at Tihar Jail as his parole period ends today. He departed from his ancestral village in Kakko, Jehanabad, Bihar, heading to Delhi.

Before leaving, Sharjeel embraced his family members, cherishing his final moments outside. He is expected to arrive at the jail by evening.

His brother, Mujammil Imam, shared, “Sharjeel was granted an 11-day parole, and today marks the last day. He must surrender before evening. During his parole, he spent quality time with family and friends. We hope for his release in the future so he can enjoy more time with us.”

Mujammil expressed mixed feelings about Sharjeel’s return to jail, noting the joy of his temporary freedom but also the pain of incarceration.

It is important to note that the Karkardooma Court in Delhi granted Sharjeel interim bail for ten days in connection with the alleged larger conspiracy behind the northeast Delhi riots. This bail was granted to allow him to attend his younger brother’s wedding and care for his ill mother.

The court imposed strict conditions for his release, requiring a personal bond of ₹50,000 and two sureties of the same amount. Additionally, Sharjeel was prohibited from interacting with the media or using social media during his parole.
