Jaipur, March 30: Tensions escalated in the Mahesh Nagar area of Jaipur, Rajasthan, following a dispute over alleged illegal liquor sales. The situation quickly turned violent, resulting in vandalism and arson.
Police have detained over a dozen individuals and initiated an investigation. The incident occurred late Sunday night near the Kartarpura drain, where locals had repeatedly complained about liquor being sold after hours.
According to reports, residents expressed their objections to the alleged illegal sales, leading to a heated argument between them and the shop owner’s associates.
The confrontation soon escalated into violent clashes, with both sides attacking each other. Several vehicles were vandalized, and one motorcycle was set ablaze.
Local residents claimed that the shopkeeper’s supporters had summoned more people, intensifying the conflict. The crowd quickly became unruly. Three motorcycles and a Scorpio vehicle were damaged, and a motorcycle was set on fire right in front of police officers, causing panic as residents fled their homes.
During the clashes, local resident Ramavatar Saini sustained injuries. Police called for an ambulance, but enraged locals temporarily blocked its path, demanding immediate arrests.
As the situation deteriorated, police personnel from several stations, including Mahesh Nagar, Sodala, Shyampath, and Jyoti Nagar, were deployed. Senior officials, including ACP Sunil Kumar from Sodala, were present to manage the situation.
Following police intervention, the situation improved, and the injured individual was transported to a hospital.
Residents claim they had previously reported late-night liquor sales at this shop, but no strict action was taken, allowing the issue to persist.
Police officials stated that several suspects have been detained, and efforts are underway to identify others involved in the violence. They assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the vandalism and arson.
