A fierce storm and heavy rainfall have wreaked havoc across the state, particularly in the capital, Patna, leaving many families devastated. Minister Ratnesh Sada expressed his condolences and assured that the government stands with the affected families, promising financial assistance. He also mentioned plans to establish an agency to monitor the work of builders in the state.
In a conversation, Minister Sada stated, “It felt as if nature had lost its temper. The storm, which hit at a speed of 135 kilometers per hour on Friday, caused significant damage. Tragically, nine lives were lost in this incident.”
The minister announced that families of the deceased would receive a compensation of four lakh rupees each from the government. Continuous monitoring is underway in areas that suffered the most damage. He emphasized that the state’s disaster management department is on high alert, keeping a close watch on the situation.
Ratnesh Sada also highlighted that Bihar frequently faces various natural disasters, including floods, earthquakes, fires, droughts, and accidents. In response, the government is preparing to take more serious measures for disaster prevention.
He specifically urged builders and contractors to adhere to construction standards. The government is working on creating a separate agency to ensure that buildings comply with these standards. Any violations will lead to strict action.
Additionally, the minister announced that the government would launch awareness campaigns at the district level to educate the public about building earthquake-resistant and safe homes. He noted that if buildings are robust and built according to standards, the loss of life and property during natural disasters can be significantly reduced.
For nearly ten days, Bihar has been experiencing strong winds and rain, resulting in fallen trees and incidents of lightning strikes. So far, over 30 people have lost their lives across the state due to these calamities.
