Severe Heatwave Continues in NCR, No Relief Expected for Six Days

Noida, May 21: The National Capital Region (NCR) is currently experiencing extreme heat and scorching winds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh forecast indicating that relief from the heat is unlikely for the next six days.

The IMD has continuously issued an orange alert, advising residents to remain cautious. According to the local weather forecast, temperatures are expected to range between 44 to 46 degrees Celsius from May 21 to May 26. On Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22, the maximum temperature could reach 46 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may drop to 28 degrees.

Humidity levels are projected to fluctuate between 35 to 12 and 35 to 15 percent on these days. A clear warning for a “heat wave” has been issued by the weather department. The forecast suggests that the intense heat will persist on May 23, with maximum temperatures around 45 degrees and minimum temperatures at 28 degrees. On May 24 and 25, temperatures are expected to remain around 44 degrees Celsius, while on May 26, the maximum may be 44 degrees and the minimum 27 degrees.

The weather department has cautioned that strong surface winds and dust storms may occur in the afternoon and evening. Many areas have already experienced the effects of strong winds and dust clouds since morning. Those venturing outdoors are facing hot winds and swirling dust. The heat is taking a toll on daily life.

Traffic in markets and on roads has decreased during the afternoon hours. Electricity demand is rising steadily, with people increasingly relying on coolers, air conditioners, and water. Hospitals are witnessing a surge in cases of dehydration, dizziness, and heat strokes. The weather department advises people to step outside only if absolutely necessary between noon and 4 PM. Staying hydrated, wearing light-colored cotton clothing, and covering the head when outdoors are strongly recommended.

Special care is urged for children, the elderly, and those with health issues. Currently, there are no signs of relief from the heat in NCR, and residents will need to remain vigilant in the coming days.
