Senior IRGC Commander Ismail Dehghan Killed in Israeli Attack

Tehran, March 12: The Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has confirmed the death of senior IRGC commander Ismail Dehghan. His funeral took place on March 11.

Reports indicate that several family members were also killed in the attack. The agency stated that his wife, Farideh Sadat Saidi, daughter Fatemeh Dehghan, son Mohammad Parsa Dehghan, and mother-in-law Soghra Ghasemi lost their lives, while another son, Mohammad Hossein Dehghan, was injured.

Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces announced on the morning of March 10 that they targeted a residential building in the Hafiziyah area of the strategically important city of Arak in central Iran. The Israeli military claimed that the operation aimed at a senior IRGC commander.

Arak is considered strategically significant for Iran, housing the Arak heavy water reactor and several military-related industrial facilities. However, the Hafiziyah area primarily consists of residential neighborhoods.

Analysts cited by the agency suggest that such an attack on a residential building indicates highly precise intelligence was used to reach the target. According to Iranian officials, many IRGC commanders and military officers killed in recent attacks were also buried in Tehran’s Meraj Square.

The Iranian government often refers to military officers as “martyrs of resistance.” Meanwhile, Israel argues that military commanders frequently use their homes as command and control centers, making them targets.
