Security Breach at Rewari Jail: Two Inmates Escape Dramatically

Rewari, March 28: A significant security lapse occurred at the high-tech Rewari Jail in Haryana on Friday evening when two inmates escaped in a dramatic fashion. The police acted swiftly, apprehending both individuals within hours.

During a routine headcount, it was discovered that two inmates were missing. They were identified as 22-year-old Faizan from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, and 21-year-old Zahid from Etawah. Both were awaiting trial for online fraud cases.

Initial investigations revealed that the inmates used a ladder brought in for ongoing construction work within the jail premises. Seizing the opportunity, they executed their escape plan by scaling the wall. Reports indicate that they had been plotting their escape for several days.

Following the incident, the jail administration launched an immediate search of the entire facility, but no clues were found. Subsequently, a complaint was filed at the Sadar police station. The police quickly captured Zahid first, followed by Faizan later that evening.

The escape triggered a flurry of activity within the jail administration. Taking the matter seriously, Alok Mittal, the Director General of Prisons, suspended seven jail staff members, including five head warders and two warders.

To investigate the security breach, IG Special Task Force B. Satish Balan visited the site, inspected the jail, and held discussions with officials. He reviewed security measures and provided necessary directives.

Rewari Jail was recently upgraded with high-tech facilities, positioning it among the state’s modern prisons. This incident raises serious questions about the effectiveness of its security protocols.
