BJP Calls for Jharkhand Shutdown Amid Outrage Over Hazaribagh Rape Case

New Delhi, March 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a strong protest against the Hemant government in Jharkhand following the brutal gang rape and murder of a minor girl in Vishnugadh, Hazaribagh district.

During a press conference in New Delhi on Monday, BJP state president and MP Aditya Sahu announced that if the culprits of the ‘Hazaribagh Nirbhaya case’ are not arrested within the next two days, a complete shutdown of Jharkhand will be observed on April 3. Prior to this, BJP workers will hold torch rallies across all district and block headquarters on April 2 to express their dissent.

Sahu stated that the rule of law in Jharkhand has completely collapsed, allowing criminals to operate with impunity. He described the incident in Vishnugadh as “rarest of the rare,” emphasizing the horrific nature of the crime. “The way the perpetrators gouged out the girl’s eyes, broke her teeth, and cut her tongue is the pinnacle of brutality. Yet, the Chief Minister has remained silent for six days. This is a shocking display of insensitivity from the government,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the honorable High Court for taking suo motu cognizance of the case. Sahu sharply criticized the state’s finance minister and Congress leaders, labeling them as “insensitive.” He remarked that the government’s attempt to compensate the family after seven days is an act of utter shamelessness.

Sahu made it clear that the BJP stands firmly with the victim’s family. The party demands that the culprits be identified and brought to justice swiftly, facing the death penalty. BJP spokesperson Rafia Naz also condemned the government, questioning the silence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s wife, Kalpana Soren, who claims to represent empowered and oppressed women. “Why is she silent on these heinous acts against the daughters of the state?” Naz asked.

She cited alarming statistics, revealing that 128 incidents of rape were reported in Jharkhand in January 2026 alone, while over 16,000 cases of women’s harassment remain unresolved. Naz highlighted recent incidents in Sahibganj, Gumla, and Littipada, stating that Jharkhand has now succumbed to the criminals.
