Champawat, September 1: In response to the yellow alert issued by the Meteorological Department, the Champawat district administration has made a significant decision. All schools and Anganwadi centers in the district will remain closed on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. However, this order excludes the areas of Tanakpur and Banbasa.
District Magistrate and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Manish Kumar, directed District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal to announce this information. He stated that according to the forecast released by the India Meteorological Department, Dehradun, on August 31, 2026, heavy rainfall is expected in various locations across Champawat on September 1.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Champawat. It indicates the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning, along with intense to extremely intense rainfall in the district. Given the continuous rainfall, there are concerns about landslides and waterlogging, prompting this decision.
According to the order, all government, aided, and recognized private schools in the district will be closed for students from classes 1 to 12. Additionally, all Anganwadi centers in the district will also remain closed, with the exception of Tanakpur and Banbasa.
To ensure that students’ education is not disrupted, the administration has instructed that online teaching will continue. This measure aims to safeguard students while ensuring their education is not adversely affected during this period.
The District Magistrate has directed the Chief Education Officer and the District Program Officer of Champawat to ensure strict compliance with this order.
It is noteworthy that several districts in Uttarakhand have experienced rainfall in recent days, increasing the risk of landslides in hilly areas. The disaster management department is on high alert, and the administration has urged residents to take the weather department’s warnings seriously.
