Sandeep Patil Appointed Mentor for Mumbai Cricket Team

Mumbai, June 24: Former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil has been appointed as the mentor for all levels of the Mumbai men’s cricket team for the 2026-27 domestic season. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced this on Wednesday.

MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated, “Sandeep Patil’s mentorship will greatly benefit our players and coaching staff. His extensive experience at the highest level of the game, combined with his deep understanding of Mumbai cricket, will aid in preparing the next generation of cricketers.”

Patil, a member of the Indian team that won the ODI World Cup in 1983, played 29 Tests and 45 ODIs for India between 1980 and 1986. He will provide strategic guidance, technical expertise, leadership development, and motivational support to players and coaching staff across all Mumbai men’s teams. Additionally, he will be actively involved in match reviews, talent identification, preparation camps, and during tournaments.

In addition to Patil’s appointment, the MCA has appointed former Indian cricketer Arundhati Ghosh as the Women’s Tournament Coordinator to oversee and enhance women’s cricket. Ghosh has played eight Tests and 11 ODIs for India. She will be responsible for women’s tournaments, local leagues, selection trials, and special camp planning. Ghosh will work closely with players, coaches, selectors, and MCA administration to advance development initiatives.

Regarding Ghosh’s appointment, Naik expressed, “We are pleased to welcome Arundhati Ghosh as the Women’s Tournament Coordinator as we continue our efforts to promote and strengthen women’s cricket within our jurisdiction.”

MCA Secretary Prof. Dr. Unmesh Khanvilkar stated that these appointments are part of the association’s significant effort to build a strong support structure for this season. The association is committed to providing the best facilities for its players. These appointments will play a crucial role in the development and success of Mumbai cricket.
