
Puri, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : International sand artist Manas Kumar Sahu unveiled a remarkable sand art piece in his studio in Puri on Saturday, celebrating the Indian women’s hockey team‘s historic gold medal victory. This achievement, which marks the team’s first gold in 44 years, was commemorated with a creation that took Sahu 44 minutes to complete.
With phrases like “Congratulations, Champions!” and “Salute to the Queens of Indian Hockey!” Sahu expressed his admiration for the team’s remarkable accomplishment.
Speaking to a news agency, Sahu shared his excitement, stating, “It’s a joyous occasion that the Indian women’s hockey team has won a gold medal after 44 years. We extend our best wishes and congratulations to the female athletes. I created a sand animation in Puri to mark this occasion, which also took us 44 minutes to make.”
In the sand animation, Sahu depicted the hockey team in action, showcasing a packed stadium where fans cheered and celebrated their victory. He expressed hope that the animation would be well-received by everyone.
The Indian women’s hockey team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Asian Games, clinching the gold medal by defeating China 1-0 in the final. Their last gold medal win at the Asian Games was in 1982, and they secured silver in 1998 while reaching the finals in 2018.
With this victory, the Indian team has also qualified directly for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
