Arshdeep Singh Reflects on Missed Wickets in ODI Against New Zealand
Arshdeep Singh expressed regret over missed wickets in the ODI against New Zealand, highlighting a lesson in patience during the game.

Auckland, November 4 (Daily Kiran) : Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh expressed disappointment over his team’s approach during the final overs of New Zealand‘s innings in the first ODI at Eden Park, Auckland. He noted that the team became somewhat greedy in their pursuit of wickets.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl, India managed to dismiss New Zealand for 146 runs, losing nine wickets. However, a late partnership between Blair Tickner and Jacob Duffy added 39 runs for the last wicket, bringing the total to 185. Tickner’s innings included four sixes, three of which came off Arshdeep in the 38th over.
Arshdeep claimed four wickets for India, while Gurnoor Barar took three and Anshul Kamboj grabbed two. Reflecting on the closing overs, he told broadcasters, “I would say we were a bit greedy. We just needed to continue what we were doing throughout the innings, and we would have gotten the wickets.”
He also commented on the favorable conditions for bowling, saying, “The weather here is nice, and it feels good to bowl. Coming from the subcontinent, it’s always nice to bowl when the pitch has some life in it. The wind is also helping.”
Arshdeep’s success was bolstered by India’s strategy to exploit the bounce from short-pitched deliveries, which troubled many New Zealand batsmen. He elaborated, “I felt there was something in the pitch, so we were trying to hit the seam hard and bowl well. They were attempting some shots on that length, which is how we got the wickets.”
When asked about his favorite wicket, Arshdeep provided a light-hearted response, sharing a personal story behind his celebration. “My favorite would be the fifth wicket, which I didn’t get. So I’m still looking for it. That celebration was for my girlfriend. When we go out or do something similar, we do those dance steps. Whenever we’re feeling a bit down, we cheer each other up with that celebration. So it was for her.”
