Mumbai, April 27: Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices are taking shape, with new aluminum dummy units providing a clearer picture of their design and size. These models offer more than just renders, showcasing how the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 might look and feel in real life.
Images shared by Sonny Dickson on X reveal these dummy units, allowing for a better understanding of proportions, especially when comparing the devices side by side. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 maintains the tall and narrow form factor that Samsung has consistently used. Similarly, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 retains its compact clamshell design, prioritizing portability over screen size. There are no significant surprises with these models.
The standout device is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, which seems to be Samsung’s response to Huawei’s Pura X lineup. This model is shorter and noticeably wider when folded, making the cover screen more user-friendly. The exact dimensions have been disclosed, highlighting this design shift.
When unfolded, the difference in aspect ratio becomes evident. The wider layout resembles a small tablet, enhancing the experience for media consumption, reading, and general browsing. This approach diverges from Samsung’s traditional design, catering to enthusiasts who have long requested such a format. However, the success of this design will depend on how well apps adapt to the wider aspect ratio.
Regarding the camera system, the dummy units feature a pill-shaped layout similar to the Fold 8, but with two cutouts instead of three. Recent leaks suggest these could include a 200MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide lens. The absence of a telephoto lens may be a compromise for this first-generation wide foldable, which measures just 4.3mm when unfolded.
Samsung is anticipated to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and Flip 8 at its next Unpacked event scheduled for July.
