New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Sam Altman, CEO of , has voiced his support for a more cautious approach to artificial intelligence development. He emphasized the need for control and safety in light of the growing capabilities of AI systems. Altman announced that will not pursue an initial public offering (IPO) in 2026.
His comments followed those of Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, who advocated for a balanced approach to frontier AI development. In an interview with Fortune Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Alison Schontel, Altman stated that given the current security challenges facing the industry, going public is not a prudent decision at this time.
“I truly believe that considering the current safety conditions, it wouldn’t be wise to go public, and we are under no pressure to do so,” Altman remarked. He indicated that still has significant work to do regarding safety and alignment, suggesting that the IPO could be postponed beyond 2026.
Altman stressed that the risks associated with highly capable AI systems are so substantial that collaboration between industry and governments is essential. He urged companies to ensure that commercial interests and personal pride do not impede their responsibilities related to this technology.
“We all have a tremendous responsibility, and we cannot let pride, the lure of profit, or anything else get in the way,” he stated. Altman also acknowledged that the AI industry has yet to make significant progress on critical safety issues, asserting that improvements in monitoring and alignment must keep pace with advancements in AI capabilities.
