New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Paytm’s founder and CEO, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, announced on September 11 that India’s digital payment system has become one of the most advanced globally. Speaking at the BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi, he emphasized the significant contributions of India’s achievements in digital payments, financial services, artificial intelligence (AI), and technology to the BRICS nations.
In an interview with a news agency, Sharma noted that the summit occurs at a pivotal moment when the world views India as a capable, self-reliant, and robust nation. He highlighted the remarkable progress made in the digital sector over recent years, which is now evident on a global scale.
“Whether it’s our payment system, financial services, AI capabilities, or technological innovations, what India has developed is a significant contribution to BRICS,” Sharma stated. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s self-reliant India mission, launched over the past decade, for encouraging active participation from entrepreneurs and the industry.
Sharma pointed out that many entrepreneurs have embraced this initiative as an opportunity to elevate India through innovation. As a result, India’s digital payment infrastructure ranks among the most developed and widely used systems worldwide.
During the same event, Vansi Udaygiri, founder and CEO of the integrated commerce platform Hesa, remarked on the emergence of new global leadership amid current international circumstances. He suggested that the collaboration of major countries like India, China, and Russia could bring significant changes to the global economy and create new opportunities for cross-border economic cooperation.
Udaygiri further explained that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, initiatives like Startup India, Make in India, and the emphasis on digital transformation are positioning India as a vital development model for the global south. He noted that India’s leadership in AI, digital transformation, and economic growth serves as an inspiration for other countries, particularly in the realms of the startup ecosystem, rapidly growing economy, and digital infrastructure.
He also mentioned proposed initiatives such as the MSME collaboration portal and invoice discounting mechanisms for BRICS nations, which could provide new momentum to small and medium enterprises. According to Udaygiri, these initiatives could significantly enhance trade, investment, and digital collaboration among BRICS countries.
