Salman Agha Faces ICC Reprimand for Code Violation Against Bangladesh

Dubai, May 20: Pakistani batsman Salman Agha has officially been reprimanded by the ICC for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test match against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The incident occurred on Tuesday during Pakistan’s second innings in the 82nd over, when Salman, returning to the pavilion after being dismissed, struck his bat against an advertising board.

According to the ICC, Salman violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to the misuse of cricket equipment, clothing, or any fixtures and fittings during an international match.

In addition to the official reprimand, a demerit point has been added to Salman Agha’s disciplinary record. This marks his second offense within a 24-month period, bringing his total demerit points to two. He was found guilty of a similar violation on March 13 of this year during an ODI match against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

The allegations were made by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Alauddin Paleker, third umpire Kumar Dharmasena, and fourth umpire Masudur Rahman Mukul. Salman accepted his offense and agreed to the proposed sanction from ICC Elite Panel match referee Jeff Crow, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

Notably, Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of a fine of 50% of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Pakistan faced a defeat by 78 runs against Bangladesh in the second Test match held in Sylhet. Previously, Pakistan lost the first match of the series by 104 runs. With this defeat, Pakistan has slipped to eighth place in the WTC points table, having won only one out of four matches in the current cycle.
