Sanjana Sanghi Advocates for Youth Empowerment at the UN, Highlights Need for Resources

Mumbai, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Actress Sanjana Sanghi has once again brought attention to issues affecting India’s youth on a global stage. Speaking at an official event at the United Nations headquarters in New York, she addressed topics such as youth empowerment, education, and grassroots development.

Sanghi raised a critical question: Are today’s youth receiving the resources and opportunities they deserve to thrive?

“I have been working on youth and education issues for nearly 12 years. As a teenager, I experienced firsthand how education could transform my life. I didn’t wait for anyone to tell me to take the lead or that education is the path to change. I felt it myself and moved forward with that mindset,” she stated.

With India having the largest youth population in the world, Sanghi emphasized the importance of preparing future generations. “I have been involved in youth-led development for a long time, which makes me question whether young people are getting the preparation and facilities they rightfully deserve,” she added.

During her speech, she also touched on military spending. “When I see large figures related to military expenditures in the news, I think about how even a small portion of that money could significantly impact education and grassroots development. Such resources could help build primary schools, improve medical facilities, create vocational training centers, and establish art centers, addressing many fundamental societal problems at the local level.”

Sanghi identified a critical issue of trust between youth and the system. “The real problem is not just about resources but also about trust. Young people do not want to be mere beneficiaries of policies made by those who will not face the long-term consequences of their decisions. They should be actively involved in the decision-making process and the change journey.”

She expressed her dream of resolving issues related to basic needs like education and health through collective efforts. “I do not want circumstances to force young people to take to the streets to make their voices heard. Change begins with collaborative work within society,” she remarked.

Sanghi was chosen to represent one of India’s leading young female voices at the UN. There, she engaged in discussions on youth participation, innovative social work, and progress towards sustainable development goals with representatives and influencers from around the world.
