Glasgow, July 29: Indian boxers have secured their third medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026. In the quarterfinal match held at SEC Hall-5, Sachin Siwach defeated Botswana’s Treasure Moremi with a commanding score of 5-0 in the men’s 60 kg category.
In the first round, all five judges unanimously favored Sachin. The second round concluded with the same result. Although Treasure Moremi managed to impress one judge in the third round, four judges still awarded the decision to Sachin.
Under the Commonwealth Games boxing format, both losing semifinalists are awarded bronze medals. With this victory, Sachin Siwach has secured his spot in the semifinals. His next goal is to win the upcoming match and reach the gold medal bout.
Sachin has become the sixth Indian boxer to enter the semifinals of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Prior to him, Preeti, Priya, Jadumani Singh, Sakshi, and Arundhati Chaudhary also made it to the final four in their respective weight categories.
On Tuesday, Priya defeated Scotland’s Niamh Mitchell 4-1 on points in the women’s 60 kg quarterfinals to advance to the next round. Following her, Preeti triumphed over Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde with a 5-0 victory in the women’s 54 kg category. Later that night, Jadumani Singh secured his semifinal spot by defeating Mwale Mwengo 5-0 in the men’s 55 kg quarterfinals.
Before Sachin’s match on Wednesday, Sakshi and Arundhati had already ensured medals for India in their weight categories. In the women’s 51 kg quarterfinals, Sakshi defeated Northern Ireland’s Caitlin Fryers 5-0, while Arundhati Chaudhary won against New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson with a split decision of 3-1 to secure her place in the semifinals.
