Chennai, April 26: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged that his team struggled to adapt to the challenging pitch conditions, leading to an 8-wicket loss against Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Following the defeat, Gaikwad stated, “To be honest, I sometimes dislike assessing the pitch this way, but I felt it was genuinely tough. The ball was coming onto the bat slowly for fast bowlers, the pace was inconsistent, and the bounce varied. However, if we hadn’t lost so many wickets, we could have reached 170-180 runs.”
He further added, “It’s difficult to gauge the conditions here. In our last three matches, we learned how the game would unfold. In the previous two or three games, our chances of winning were around 60 to 70 percent, but we didn’t expect the game to unfold this way today. We just couldn’t adapt to the conditions.”
CSK batted first, scoring 158 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. The batting performance was disappointing, with only Ruturaj Gaikwad showing form, scoring a captain’s knock of 74 runs. In his innings, he hit 6 fours and 4 sixes. However, other players like Sanju Samson (11 runs), Sarfaraz Khan (0), Dewald Brevis (2 runs), Shivam Dube (22 runs), and Karthik Sharma (15 runs) failed to make significant contributions.
Gujarat Titans chased down the target of 159 runs in just 16.4 overs, losing 2 wickets. Sai Sudharsan played a remarkable innings, scoring 87 runs off 46 balls, including 4 fours and 7 sixes. Jos Buttler remained unbeaten at 39 runs, while Shubman Gill contributed 33 runs.
