London, August 31: England showcased an impressive performance, defeating Pakistan by 194 runs in the second Test. Chasing a target of 389 runs at Lord’s, Pakistan was all out for 194 runs in their second innings. With this victory, captain Joe Root has achieved a significant milestone.
Root has become the English captain with the most wins against Asian teams. Under his leadership, England has secured 15 victories against Asian sides, surpassing former captain Andrew Strauss, who led the team to 14 wins. Alastair Cook ranks third on this list with 12 victories.
With this win, England has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series. In their second innings, Pakistan’s batsmen struggled against England’s fast bowlers. Only Saud Shakeel stood firm, scoring a commendable 97 runs. However, he lacked support from the other batsmen. Shan Masood contributed 26 runs, while Ali Usman managed 16 runs before being dismissed. Mohammad Abbas remained not out at 13 runs.
In terms of bowling, Ollie Robinson took 4 wickets in the second innings, while Josh Tongue claimed 3 wickets, and Jofra Archer took 2.
