Chennai, May 10: In an exhilarating match of IPL 2026, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) showcased an impressive performance, defeating the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets on Sunday. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his delight with the team’s performance.
This victory marks CSK’s sixth win of the season, propelling them to fifth place in the points table. After the match, Gaikwad shared his excitement about successfully chasing a target of over 200 runs for the first time in a while. He stated, “Yes, the match was quite close, but chasing a target of 200 often comes down to the 19th or 20th over. We had a great start in the powerplay, but it can be challenging for a new batsman to come in and play aggressive shots. It’s crucial that we finish our tasks. It has been a long time since we chased a target of 200 successfully, so it felt great to do it.”
Gaikwad also mentioned that a crucial message from Sanju Samson during the strategic time-out helped boost the team’s morale.
The CSK captain remarked, “After the first time-out, Sanju came in and said that if we have it in us, we need to make a comeback and try to restrict them to as low a score as possible. Anything around 220 would still be manageable. I think that energized all of us. After that, we just needed to take wickets and gradually get back into the game.”
He praised the exceptional bowling of Noor Ahmad and Jamie Overton, particularly highlighting their performance between the 6th and 10th overs. Noor took one wicket while conceding only 24 runs in his four-over spell, while Overton claimed three critical wickets for 36 runs.
Gaikwad also commended LSG’s batter Josh Inglis, who scored a remarkable 85 runs off just 33 balls. He said, “Kudos to Josh Inglis. I think he played some incredible shots that we really had no answer for, and you can’t plan for that or set a field accordingly. He played a phenomenal innings.”
The Lucknow Super Giants batted first, scoring 203 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs. However, CSK chased down the target of 204 runs in just 19.2 overs, losing only five wickets, thanks to Urvil Patel’s explosive 65 off 23 balls and Gaikwad’s solid 42 runs.
