Roy Keane Questions Michael Carricks Suitability for Manchester United

Mumbai, March 17: Roy Keane has expressed doubts about Michael Carrick being the ideal choice for Manchester United, despite Carrick’s commendable performance as interim manager.

Carrick has successfully led Manchester United into the Champions League spots, achieving seven wins in nine matches since taking over from Ruben Amorim.

A recent 3-1 victory against Aston Villa bolstered the club’s position in the top four, prompting increased calls for Carrick to be appointed permanently.

Former teammate Wayne Rooney has publicly supported Carrick for the full-time role. However, Keane cautioned that the Red Devils require someone with a stronger track record of winning trophies.

“Most players appreciate a caretaker manager. He hasn’t faced any distractions. Once appointed as manager, the responsibilities multiply,” Keane stated during an interview with Sky Sports.

“I believe Manchester United needs someone with more experience in winning trophies and competing in Europe, which Carrick lacks.”

Keane added, “All this talk about everyone loving him—was everyone still loving him last week when they couldn’t defeat a Newcastle team with ten men?”

He emphasized that while the timing may have been favorable for United, it’s essential to remember that this is the same team that finished 15th last season. “People get overly excited that United are third in the league—I’m not one of them. I get thrilled when teams are winning trophies.”

When asked about potential managerial targets, Keane mentioned Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone and Paris Saint-Germain’s Luis Enrique as viable options. “There are many candidates, including Simeone and Enrique. You should aim to find the best, like Tuchel,” he remarked.
