Rohitashya Roy Appointed as New Advocate General of Jharkhand

Ranchi, June 15: The Jharkhand government has appointed senior advocate Rohitashya Roy as the new Advocate General of the state. The notification was issued late Sunday evening. Earlier that day, Rajeev Ranjan, who had served as Advocate General for the past six years, submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

According to the notification from the Law Department, the Governor accepted Rajeev Ranjan’s resignation, submitted on June 14, with immediate effect under Article 165(1) of the Constitution of India. Rohitashya Roy, a senior advocate at the Jharkhand High Court, has been appointed as Advocate General until further notice, effective from the date he assumes office.

Rohitashya Roy is recognized among the senior advocates of the Jharkhand High Court and has a long-standing practice in constitutional, civil, and service-related matters. He has built a strong reputation in cases involving writ petitions, civil disputes, appeals, and review petitions.

Given his extensive experience and active practice in the legal field, his appointment is considered significant. The Advocate General serves as the highest legal advisor to the state government, representing it in the High Court and various judicial forums while providing counsel on important legal matters.

His role is also crucial in matters related to state policies, legislative processes, and constitutional issues. This change in the state’s top legal position is viewed as important from both administrative and legal perspectives. However, the government has not provided any official information regarding the reasons behind Rajeev Ranjan’s resignation.
