New Delhi, June 12: The ODI series between India and Afghanistan is set to kick off on June 13. The first match will take place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Rohit Sharma has been declared fit to participate in the series. With his appearance in the opening ODI, he is poised to achieve a significant milestone.
If Rohit plays in the first ODI against Afghanistan, he will become the oldest player to represent India in ODI cricket. He will break a 37-year-old record currently held by Mohinder Amarnath, who played his last ODI at the age of 39 years and 36 days. On Saturday, Rohit will be 39 years and 44 days old.
In terms of overall records, the oldest player to have played an ODI is Nolan Clarke from the Netherlands, who participated at the age of 47 years and 257 days.
Rohit last played an ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year, where his performance was not particularly noteworthy. Fans are hoping for a strong showing from the former Indian captain against Afghanistan. Rohit has a solid record in the 50-over format against this team.
In three matches, he has scored 150 runs against Afghanistan at an average of 75 and a strike rate of 127, including one century. With Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya absent due to injuries, Rohit will bear greater responsibility. Kohli is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Hardik has a minor issue with his left leg. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been included in the squad in place of Kohli.
