New Delhi, July 28: The Delhi High Court has denied a petition seeking the removal of police officer Sandeep Lamba from the investigation into a police misconduct case from 2025. The court emphasized that a single video cannot tarnish the entire reputation of a police officer.
During the hearing, the court questioned the petitioner, asking if the officer’s image should be entirely destroyed just because he was seen slapping a woman in a video linked to the Jantar Mantar incident. The court stated that it is crucial to consider the entire context and circumstances before drawing conclusions about any individual.
The High Court remarked on the potential severity of the situation if a large crowd had reached Parliament, leading to violence or gunfire. It highlighted the need to understand the police’s role and the circumstances while managing crowds.
The court asserted that even if there are allegations of excessive force in an incident, the officer in question is entitled to a fair investigation and hearing. It cannot be assumed that the officer would be biased in every case based solely on one incident or video. The High Court also mentioned that no institution should be defamed in such a manner.
The Delhi Police informed the court that the investigation in this case has already been completed. They stated that the petitioner’s statements have been recorded and nothing remains pending in the investigation. Based on this, the police presented their case before the court.
The petitioner had requested that officer Sandeep Lamba be removed from the investigation process to ensure fairness. However, the High Court did not accept this request and refused to proceed with further hearings on the petition.
