Chennai, March 7: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin met with RN Ravi at the Lok Bhavan in Chennai to congratulate him on his appointment as the Governor of West Bengal. During the meeting, Stalin honored Ravi with a shawl and presented him with a statue of Saint Thiruvalluvar.
RN Ravi has been transferred from Tamil Nadu to West Bengal. He took office as the Governor of Tamil Nadu on September 18, 2021. Throughout his four-year tenure, there were several instances of conflict between the state government and the Raj Bhavan.
Since assuming office in 2021, there have been numerous disagreements between the DMK government and the Governor. These conflicts have surfaced at constitutional, legal, and political levels, keeping the relationship in the spotlight.
RN Ravi is a 1976 batch IPS officer from the Kerala cadre. Over his extensive career, he has held significant responsibilities in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the CBI.
Before becoming Governor, RN Ravi served as the chief negotiator for the Government of India in the Naga peace talks. He was also the Governor of Nagaland from 2019 to 2021, during which he was given additional charge of Meghalaya.
According to Article 153 of the Indian Constitution, there is a Governor for each state, appointed by the President. The appointment is made through an order signed and sealed by the President, as per Article 155.
However, the central government plays a crucial role in this process. Typically, the President appoints a Governor based on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and the Union Cabinet.
Generally, a Governor’s term lasts for five years. However, as per Article 156 of the Constitution, the President can remove a Governor at any time.
