New Delhi, June 30: The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) announced a new 16-member parliamentary board on Tuesday, with senior leader and former MP KC Tyagi at the helm. Additionally, the board will include four special invitees. Party president and Union Minister Jayant Singh shared this news via a social media post.
Jayant Singh expressed his enthusiasm on X, stating, “I am pleased to announce the formation of the RLD parliamentary board, which will be chaired by former MP KC Tyagi. I will also be a member of this committee. The committee will consist of party organization officials, public representatives, dedicated party workers, and some distinguished citizens.”
The RLD was founded by Chaudhary Ajit Singh, the son of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, after separating from the Janata Dal.
Ajit Singh was initially elected on a Congress ticket but later resigned to form the Bharatiya Kisan Kamgar Party, which eventually became the RLD in 1999. He served as the Minister of Agriculture from 2001 to 2003 and as the Minister of Civil Aviation from 2011 to 2014.
The RLD claims to represent the interests of farmers, laborers, and the socially and economically weaker sections of society. The party identifies itself as based on socialist and secular ideologies.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the RLD participated as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, winning seats in both Bijnor and Bagpat in Uttar Pradesh.
The newly announced parliamentary board includes former MPs, former ministers, and MLAs. According to the party, this restructuring aims to strengthen the organization and enhance parliamentary strategy.
KC Tyagi, born in 1950 in a farmer’s family in Morta village, Ghaziabad, began his political career in student politics before becoming an MP. He entered politics through the socialist movement and later became a prominent spokesperson for the Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United). He was among the leaders who opposed Sanjay Gandhi during the Emergency.
Tyagi served as an MP from the Hapur Lok Sabha seat from 1989 to 1991 and was a Rajya Sabha member from Bihar from 2013 to 2016. He is regarded as a skilled political analyst and strategist. In 2024, he resigned from the position of national spokesperson for JD(U) citing personal reasons and joined the RLD on March 22, 2026.
