New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi commented on the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee’s announcement to ban non-Hindus from entering the Badrinath-Kedarnath temples. He stated that restrictions can be imposed on temples but not on rivers or mountains.
In an interaction from New Delhi, Rashid Alvi said, “If they want to impose restrictions, they can do so on temples. What business do Muslims have in temples, and why would they go there? Similarly, no Hindu should visit a mosque. But restrictions cannot be imposed on rivers, mountains, or common public places. Rivers and mountains belong to all citizens of India. Therefore, any such step taken under the influence of power or authority would be unconstitutional.”
Meanwhile, protests continue across the country regarding the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) new regulations. When asked for his reaction, Congress leader Ajay Chikara said that there should be a study to understand what is new in these rules. He added that historically, Dalits, Adivasis, and other marginalized communities have faced significant injustice, and perhaps this decision has been influenced by pressure from these groups.
Speaking about the National Office Bearer (NOB) programme, Ajay Chikara highlighted that the Indian Youth Congress, one of the largest democratic organisations in the country and the world, has launched this initiative. Through this programme, young people who want to fight for the protection of the Constitution and support Rahul Gandhi’s message can apply. The programme will last eight months and will include several phases.
Referring to the recently concluded municipal elections, Ajay Chikara noted that the ruling party used money and muscle power, but despite this, Congress fought the elections diligently, upholding its ideals and the Constitution. Although the results were not as expected, Congress aims to bring more young people into the party who wish to contribute to protecting the nation’s Constitution.
