Mumbai, March 26: In the world of cinema, certain characters leave an indelible mark on audiences. Renuka Shahane is one such actress whose identity is forever linked to a memorable role. Throughout her career, she has appeared in numerous films and television shows, but one film transformed her destiny, leading to a flood of offers.

Born on March 27, 1965, in Mumbai, Renuka hails from a Marathi family. Her father was an officer in the Indian Navy, while her mother, Shanta Gokhale, was involved in theater and films. Growing up in an artistic environment, Renuka faced challenges early in life, including her parents’ separation, which impacted her childhood. Nevertheless, she completed her education, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in psychology.

Renuka began her career with the Marathi film “Hach Sunbai Cha Bhau.” She then ventured into television, joining the popular Doordarshan show “Surbhi.” At that time, with fewer channels, Renuka’s face became a household name.

The pivotal moment in her career came in 1994 when she landed a role in “Hum Aapke Hain Koun.” Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the film starred Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles. Renuka portrayed Pooja, an ideal daughter-in-law and sister. Her simplicity won the hearts of viewers, and the emotional scene depicting her character’s death remains unforgettable. This film established her identity, leading many to recognize her in real life as Pooja.

Following “Hum Aapke Hain Koun,” Renuka received numerous offers and showcased her talent in various films and television shows across Hindi, Marathi, and other languages. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Marathi) for her role in “Aboli.” Additionally, she ventured into directing, creating the film “Tribhanga.”

On the personal front, Renuka married actor Ashutosh Rana on May 25, 2001. After their marriage, they welcomed two sons, Shauryman and Satyendra. Their love story is quite intriguing; Renuka and Ashutosh met during the shooting of a film directed by Hansal Mehta, sparking a relationship that eventually led to marriage.
