
Raipur, May 29: Teejan Bai, the esteemed Padma Vibhushan awardee and renowned Pandwani singer, has been admitted to AIIMS in Raipur due to a sudden decline in her health. Her condition remains critical as doctors closely monitor her in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
The 69-year-old artist was brought to the hospital late Wednesday night after her health deteriorated unexpectedly. Family members and close friends rushed her to AIIMS Raipur for immediate medical attention. Upon arrival, doctors assessed her condition and promptly admitted her to the MICU due to the severity of her situation.
According to medical reports, Teejan Bai is battling several serious health issues. She is suffering from a lung infection, which is causing breathing difficulties. Additionally, an infection has spread in her bloodstream, a condition known medically as sepsis.
Doctors have indicated that this situation is quite serious, as it can affect multiple organs in the body. Furthermore, she is experiencing kidney complications, and her blood pressure remains consistently low.
The hospital administration has formed a specialized team of doctors for her care, including critical care experts, pulmonologists, and hematologists. This team is monitoring her condition around the clock.
Teejan Bai was born in 1956 in the village of Ganiyari near Bhilai, Chhattisgarh. She has played a pivotal role in reviving the traditional folk art of Pandwani, which presents stories from the Mahabharata through song and performance.
In recognition of her contributions to the arts, the Government of India awarded her the Padma Shri in 1988, followed by the Padma Bhushan in 2003 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2019, the second-highest civilian honor in the country. She has also received several other prestigious awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
