Kolkata, August 24: TMC MP Sougata Roy has responded to several pressing issues in West Bengal. He rebuked Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s claim that the previous government did nothing for border security.
Roy stated, “This is not true. Whatever needed to be done was already accomplished by the previous government. Suvendu Adhikari is now trying to take action. There is no need for him to criticize the old government; it is his responsibility now.”
In light of recent violent clashes and vandalism at Jadavpur University, the head of the inquiry committee, Professor Shubha Shankar Sarkar, has resigned amid controversy. Roy emphasized that there are many questions regarding the incident at the university, and a thorough investigation is essential.
Notably, Jadavpur University witnessed severe violence between leftist student organizations and supporters of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. The conflict erupted during a general body meeting, with both sides accusing each other of inviting outsiders to instigate attacks.
CM Suvendu Adhikari mentioned that 20 percent of police posts are reserved for Agniveers. In response, TMC MP Roy remarked that since the inception of the Agniveer scheme, there has been considerable public dissent. People prefer permanent positions in the army. It remains uncertain how successful the Agniveer project will be, making it difficult to discuss its implementation.
