Mumbai, March 12: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Ramandeep Singh has expressed that working with Shane Watson and Andre Russell in the franchise’s coaching setup for IPL 2026 is nothing short of a blessing. He emphasized his eagerness to learn as much as possible from these legendary all-rounders.
Watson has joined KKR as an assistant coach, while Russell will take on the role of power coach. In a statement released by the franchise on Thursday, Ramandeep stated, “Having Watson in the dugout is a blessing. I want to make the most of this opportunity and learn from him as much as I can. I hope to replicate his success in crucial moments of matches for the team.”
At 28, Ramandeep joined KKR in 2024 and was part of the team that secured the championship title for the third time. He has scored 172 runs at a strike rate of 167 while playing for KKR, along with taking 6 wickets. His performance in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was also impressive, scoring 209 runs at a strike rate of 195 in 10 matches for his state, Punjab, and claiming 9 wickets.
He further elaborated, “My approach this year is entirely situation-based. Whenever I go out to bat, I focus on understanding potential scenarios. I am also trying to gauge the changes in the pitch and play the right shots accordingly.”
Having played 2 T20 matches for India, Ramandeep is keen to contribute with the ball this season as well. He mentioned, “If given the chance, I want to perform well as a bowler because I believe I have the potential to be an all-rounder. I will give my best on the field and hope for positive results.”
Under the captaincy of experienced batsman Ajinkya Rahane, KKR had a disappointing performance last season, finishing eighth in IPL 2025. KKR will kick off their campaign for IPL 2026 on March 29 against the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Recognized as one of KKR’s reliable finishers, Ramandeep stated that his focus is on mental preparation and maintaining consistency in his game.
“This is something I have been working on for the past year. I want to play not just to entertain the audience but according to the match situation. My goal is to become a ‘match-winner,’ and it doesn’t matter what people say on social media or elsewhere. My sole focus is on improving my game and skills every day.”
