Kolkata, March 6: Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh addressed employees of Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Limited today, emphasizing the need for the company to develop cutting-edge and innovative platforms in this technology-driven era. He called upon GRSE to play a crucial role in achieving India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
During his visit to the GRSE campus in Kolkata, Singh stated, “Today’s era is the age of technology. GRSE must align with this by creating platforms that symbolize excellence in shipbuilding both in India and globally. GRSE will have a significant role in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India by 2047.”
Appreciating GRSE’s contributions to nation-building and the blue economy, Singh remarked that Indian shipyards are a living chapter in the country’s industrial and defense history. For over a century and a half, GRSE has provided the Indian Navy and Coast Guard with powerful warships, frigates, and other vessels that safeguard the nation’s maritime interests.
He added, “When a modern warship built by you sails on the ocean waves, it is not just a structure of steel and machinery. It represents the hard work of thousands of laborers, the innovative capabilities of engineers, the precision of technicians, and a commitment to the nation.”
Singh described every employee at GRSE not merely as a worker but as an integral part of a grand mission of nation-building. He encouraged them to continue their efforts with enthusiasm and dedication, stating, “New challenges will arise, new technologies will emerge, and competition will increase. But with the same hard work and commitment, GRSE will shine as a beacon of shipbuilding excellence in India and the world.”
The event featured a vibrant cultural presentation by GRSE employees and their families in honor of the Defense Minister. Singh praised the performance as “magnificent,” highlighting it as a beautiful reflection of India’s diversity, unity, and rich cultural heritage.
Also present at the event were GRSE’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Commodore P.R. Hari (Retd.), senior officials from the Ministry of Defense, and other senior officials from the shipyard.
