Rajeev Chandrasekhar Criticizes Left and Congress for Exploiting Sabarimala Issue for Votes

Thiruvananthapuram, April 7: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Kerala president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accused the CPI-M and Congress on Tuesday of turning the issue of women’s entry into the Sabarimala temple into an emotional topic to gain votes in the upcoming assembly elections.

His remarks came as a nine-judge constitutional bench, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, began hearing the long-pending review case regarding Sabarimala, which raises significant constitutional questions related to religious freedom and gender equality.

Chandrasekhar stated, “The Sabarimala issue is a clear example of how the CPI-M and Congress attempted to disrupt and alter the temple’s traditions in 2018, hurting the sentiments of those who believe in Sabarimala.”

He added, “When the BJP and many Malayalis protested, they were jailed, and thousands of cases were filed against them. The Congress remained silent on this issue and supported the CPI-M regarding women’s entry into Sabarimala.”

He further claimed, “Now, just before the elections, the same CPI-M is trying to take a U-turn, and Congress, along with opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, is attempting to appear as if they have something to say about Sabarimala.”

Chandrasekhar also alleged that the main accused in the Sabarimala gold theft case was seen in photographs with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

He questioned, “On what basis are Congress and CPI-M trying to make Sabarimala an emotional issue to garner votes before the elections?”

He emphasized that since 2018, only the BJP has remained steadfast on the Sabarimala issue, which is about protecting the faith of devotees.

Additionally, Chandrasekhar accused Rahul Gandhi of playing a primary role in the alleged National Herald scam and benefiting from it.

In response to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s statement accusing the CPI-M and BJP of collusion, Chandrasekhar remarked, “You are a Chief Minister of a state who came to power by making promises in Telangana. You have not fulfilled any of those promises. Go back to Telangana and do your job.”
