Rajasthan Court Convicts Six in Drug Trafficking Case, Sentences Them to 15 Years

Jaipur, June 19: A special court in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur has convicted six individuals in a drug trafficking case linked to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). Each of the convicted has been sentenced to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment.

In a statement released on Friday, the NCB highlighted the Jaipur unit’s success in combating drug trafficking by securing convictions against six accused involved in the illegal inter-state smuggling of opium poppy husk, known as “doda chura.” This substance is prohibited under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.

The special NDPS court in Bharatpur also imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh on each of the convicts. The accused include Sangram Ram Bawari and Dheema Ram Bishnoi from Nagaur district, along with Sunil, Oma Ram, Bhutta Ram Bawari, and Kalu Ram Jat from Bikaner district.

According to the NCB, based on specific intelligence, their team intercepted a truck and a Swift car near the Amoli toll plaza in Bharatpur on October 3, 2021. During the search, they seized a total of 619.800 kilograms of doda chura packed in 28 bags, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The case was registered under various sections of the NDPS Act-1985. Investigations revealed that Dheema Ram Bishnoi, Sangram Ram Bawari, Bhutta Ram Bawari, Oma Ram, Sunil, and Kalu Ram conspired to illegally transport doda chura from Jharkhand to Rajasthan. Bhutta Ram was identified as the main person responsible for handling the prohibited substance, while the others were actively involved in transportation, escorting, and payment arrangements.

The NCB’s Jaipur zonal unit emphasized that their efforts ensured justice was served and communities were protected from the dangers of drugs. The NCB remains fully committed to dismantling drug networks and fulfilling its pledge for a “Drug-Free India.”
